Fish Forever
You are invited to view the final MPA Working Group brand identity concepts. There are three finals versions from which we want to chose one.

(don’t worry, it will open in new browser window)
There is also the story of the development of the Fish Forever logo so you understand where we coming from and to show that a range of people have had input. If you want to read the background story it’s here.
We would appreciate your comments below. We would particularly like any Reo speakers to give feedback on the Maori translation. We are aware that the first i of Ipipiri should probably have a macron over it, which will be addressed.

I like Fish Forever MarkII option 3, but would redraw the kelp to look less like palm trees and more like Ecklonia kelp. Fewer fronds, more irregularly radiating, and blunt on the ends. The rest is excellent!

I see your point about the ‘Reserve’ connatations and think ‘Marine Sanctuary’ a good option…how about a pannie snapper? a half way compromise between the cartoon fish and the snapper above.

I’m for Fish forever, Mk II, Option 1.
I’m one of those people who is troubled about the perception that the primay purpose of marine protected areas in the Bay of Islands is to enhance fish abundance. After all, as Roger G. has recently written, ‘Any benefits [of marine protected areas] to the fisheries (and there are many) are purely incidental.’
But the ambiguity that this option brings is (I think) enough for me. It includes well enough for me (for now) protection of representative biodiversity – like we do Omahuta.
The snapper is stylised but still distinctly snapper. The kelp is obvious enough. I like (what to me is) the egg mass on the kelp frond, showing continuity.
Well done!
John
